The Bankrupt Minister of Fijian Affairs

Epeli Ganilau is a bankcrupt. He owes the Fiji Development Bank about half a million dollars. He has almost sold their residence in Somosomo (Vuniduva). That residence is not even an original yavu in Somosomo. Vuniduva originally belong to the Tui Somosomo of Lamini Village.

There is no originality to the so called title Taukei Vuniduva because it never existed in the days when the Tui Cakau was a revered high chief. The Ganilau family do not have any yavu in Somosomo. They are actually originally from Qeleni. Vuniduva was originally the site of the former Provincial Council Office. Whoever in the Ganilau family who claimed that piece of land and turned it into an estate transferred the Provincial Council Office to the site where it is now.

Now that site is the yavu of the Vasu-i-Vuna clan who are the original kawa of the ulumatua in the Mataqali Valelevu. In trying to say that Qarase influenced the Tui Cakau title to be given to Ratu Naiqama is a great insult to the Ai Sokula clan because as far as they are concerned nobody but nobody will ever have a say in the matters relating to the installation of a new Tui Cakau. Ratu Mara should know because he was the influence from the beginning of why Ratu Epeli should lay claim to something he knows very well he has no right to.

As far as the Mataqali Valelevu of Somosomo is concerned, the rightful holder of the Tui Cakau title will always be, and I repeat, will always be, the Lalabalavu family. They are the second in line only to the clan of the vasu-i-vuna who originally gave the title away because as their forefather said, he is already a TURAGA. So much for wanting to be the Tui Cakau. Their only claim to that title is because of some stupid ideas conceived in those days that only those who are vasu to Bau should be given the title. The Ganilau family have maternal links to the Vunivalu clan of Bau through a lady of high status in Bau called Adi Kainona. We are not impressed and we are not amused.

Epeli Ganilau is so bitter about so many things he has lost his sense of direction. He supports the coup because it will be a life saver for him in repaying his loans. The man has no qualification in anything apart from being a military officer. He supports the Land Use policy of Mahen C. because he really does not own any significant portion of land in Taveuni. He has brought great disrepute to the province of Cakaudrove, the Chiefly clan of the Ai Sokula and his family because of his craving for power. The whole of Cakaudrove dislike him and his family and after the Tui Cakau affair, will never again like them.
